Coronavirus Update: Guest Zack Quitero

2/1/2021

On today's show host MaryAnn Digman interviews Zack Quitero, the Ombudsman for the New Mexico Aging & Long Term Services Department. Zack is originally from Mesilla, got his undergraduate degree from NMSU and his law degree from UNM. Zack outlined how COVID 19 has impacted NM long term care residents and how the vaccine is being provided for that population.
Currently, the first dose of the vaccine has been offered to residents and employees of facilities with a high percentage accepting the vaccine. The topic of informed consent was explored especially for those who might not be able to make their own decisions. Zack gave a thorough description of durable medical power of attorney and advanced directive and encouraged our listeners to seek legal advice if they don't have them yet.

He also encouraged our listeners to volunteer if they are interested in helping our residents of long term care facilities.  They can find the information on Volunteer page at the New Mexico Aging & Long-Term Services Department website.

Also mentioned on the show were website for the New Mexico COVID-19 Vaccine Registration System and the NM Department of Health.
