Nan Rubin visited with Madibuseng "Anna" Ejindo-Wright, who despite apartheid, was able to leave South Africa at 19 to study nursing in London. She retired after a 30-year career as a lecturer in nursing, and used her pension to purchase a plot of land near Cape Town. There she has had success cultivating hot chile peppers, and she stopped in Las Cruces to meet with the Chile Pepper Institute to improve her crop.
