On the November 27, 2019 edition of Speak Up, Las Cruces, Peter Goodman and Walt Rubel talked to NMSU instructor Julia Smith. They talked about Orville “Buddy” Wanzer and The Devil's Mistress, a 1965 film he directed that was shot in Las Cruces and will be shown on Saturday, December 5th at the Rio Grande Theatre. Proceeds from the film will support Smith’s work-in-progress documentary about Wanzer and his relevance to southern New Mexico film culture.

Taking place mainly in the 1860s in Europe and New York, it presents a gripping series of battles between good and evil--God, his angels, and servants versus devils who inhabit the underworld as well as our planetary realm, interweaving white magic with black magic and the dark arts. The story features Strom, one of the Nephilim--part human and part angel. During the November 20, 2019 edition of Speak Up, Las Cruces, Peter Goodman and Walt Rubel talked with Scottish film director Steven Lewis Simpson. His film, Neither Wolf nor Dog, will be showing at the The Fountain Theatre November 22 - 28. It was shot on the Lakota Reservation and contains insight into the challenges of working relationships between Lakota (notably a very old man who fought during D-Day and has a lot to say) and white U.S. folks (particularly a writer the old man contacts to help tell his story).

An artist, public scholar, and conservationist, Mr. Banerjee discussed his role and goals as a co-curator of the exhibition, Species in Peril along the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, as well as the biological annihilation he has witnessed here, in the Pacific Northwest, and in the Arctic.
