In the first hour of the August 28, 2019 edition of Speak Up, Las Cruces, hosts Peter Goodman and Walt Rubel talked to Delano Lewis, former U.S. Ambassador to South Africa and former head of National Public Radio. Now he's a Las Cruces resident and produces the Left Right Forward Podcast Show, in which Mr. Lewis interviews various figures of national interest and will adapt for his own KTAL-LP show, which will be starting soon.
Lynn Moorer welcomed pastor Paul Duerksen back to the show to discuss his book of fiction, A Passage to Iona: A Story of Ancient Scotland. Set in the sixth century, it’s a love story in which the protagonist Maedoc Graham’s love of family and God grows larger and the romantic love of his married life flourishes while experiencing a spiritual awakening and growth after the Irish St. Columba converts him to Christianity. Once Maedoc casts aside his previous reverence for pagan gods, he learns to follow Christ, pray, and because of his faith, heal people.
In 2017, Lynn Middle School was designated as the first Community School in Las Cruces. David Greenberg from Las Cruces Public Schools and Pat DeSimio from Cruces Creatives joined Nan Rubin on the August 13, 2019 edition of Cafe Con Leche to report on a new project at Lynn Community Middle School and an expansion of the community schools program in Las Cruces.
