Peter and Walt discuss Joe Biden’s choice of Kamala Harris as VP nominee with Patsy Madrid, a Las Cruces native who got to know Ms. Harris pretty well when both (and Beau Biden) were Attorneys-General for their respective states.
Peter Goodman and Walt Rubel update listeners on the latest information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic as a part of Speak Up, Las Cruces.
Can we have a recovery before we find a cure to the sickness?
Debbi Moore, president and CEO of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, was recently selected for a national group formed by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. Welcome to this episode of "Think Again" where we're treated to an easygoing and thoughtful conversation with Laura McElroy. Ms. McElroy brings with her a range of experience in the field of mental health, and is currently employed as a Special Education Social Worker with the Las Cruces Public School System.
This program offers a thought-provoking potpourri of considerations about mental health, including how in the past our society thought about mental health - how we think about the issues now - and what may be advantageous ways of thinking, as our culture plows headlong into the 21st Century. Host MaryAnn Digman digs into the data to determine what's happening with COVID-19 in New Mexico, Doña Ana County and El Paso, and takes a look at how schools are opening in Las Cruces.
Lisa Lucca talks with local artist Paul Maxwell about his art auction for the Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico, and Food Bank Communications Director, Sonya Warwick, about creative community contribution during this pandemic. Peter and Walt's final guests on the August 5, 2020 edition of Speak Up Las Cruces were local actor and educator Irene Oliver-Lewis and former Attorney-General Patsy Madrid, two cousins, who talked about their families and their knowledge of how things used to be in Las Cruces. Ms. Madrid's mother, Mabel Fitch Madrid, died very recently. Branigan Cultural Center had an exhibit not long ago on the Fitch Sisters, who were prominent here.
Peter and Walt were joined by Mike Lilley and Treasurer Herb Torres (via telephone) to find out what's going on at El Caldito, and how the current pandemic and health restrictions are affecting its operations.
Walt and Peter talked with former U.S. Ambassador to South Africa Delano Lewis, largely about racism and current race-related events.
Peter and Walt talked with station founding board-members Bruce Ernst (now General Manager) and Nan Rubin (founding President of the Board) and got their perspectives on the station -- its successes and needs. Then they talked with Harvey Hilbert and Xolani Kacela, who will be taking over co-hosting Saturday morning's "Take on Faith" show. Harvey is a Buddhist roshi, Xolani is the Unitarian Universalist minister here, and they're both interesting gentlemen, so their ideas for the show should be fun to hear.
