David Edmonds is a British philosopher and a Distinguished Research Fellow at Oxford University’s Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics. He is also coauthor with John Eidinow, of the international best-seller Wittgenstein’s Poker: The Story of a Ten-Minute Argument Between Two Great Philosophers, and co-author with Hugh Fraser, of the children’s book, Undercover Robot. He is an ad hoc columnist for the Jewish Chronicle, a former contributing editor to Prospect Magazine, and cohost with Nigel Warburton of the popular podcast series Philosophy Bites, which has had over 44 million downloads. He also runs two other blogs: Philosophy 247 and Social Science Bites. He was a multi-award winning presenter/producer at the BBC, host of The Big Idea, and a regular presenter on BBC Analysis. His latest book is entitled, Parfit: A Philosopher and His Mission to Save Morality, which is the subject of today’s interview.
More than nine years after its designation as a national monument, the federal government has started the process to develop a resource management plan for the Organ Mountains/Desert Peaks National Monument.
Scoping meetings will be held throughout the area, including from 6 to 8 p.m. July 12 at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum; 5 to 7 p.m. July 13 at the Village of Hatch Community Center and 6 to 8 p.m. July 11 at the Mimbres Valley Special Events Center in Deming. Ceil and Peter Herman, from the Black Box Theatre, talk about "Victoria in the Highlands" and the NTSC.
Alexandra McKinney, an instructional coordinator and supervisor/historian at the Fort Selden Historic Site, discusses plans for celebrating its 50th year as an historic site. The fort was built in 1865.
