We were live from the Farmers Market in downtown Las Cruces on November 5, 2022. The Old-Time Pharmaceuticals were our musical guests.
Las Cruces Bulletin publisher Richard Coltharp and writer Mike Cook gave a recap of the week's news and previewed upcoming events as they highlighted articles in the latest edition of the newspaper. They also talked with Patty Groth about Toys For Tots.
Cynthia Dewi Oka will be doing a Nelson-Boswell reading Friday at 7:30 pm. on NMSU campus at
the Health & Social Services Auditorium. Ms Oka is the author of Fire Is Not a Country (Northwestern University Press, 2021), Salvage: Poems (Northwestern University Press, 2017), and Nomad of Salt and Hard Water (Thread Makes Blanket, 2016). She's originally from Bali, Indonesia. Noted writer, writing teacher, Irish fiddle player, and sometime basketball coach, Rus Bradburd, discusses plenty of subjects, including Tim Hardaway (whom Rus recruited initially to UTEP), creative writing, the transition from sports to writing, and the start of Aggie's basketball season. Rus also talks about Ireland, music, and the books he has written.
Art Marrujo talks about the housing market, what the organization is doing these days, and the GO Bond situation.
Voters are savvy enough to know that there is no free lunch, but the fact that city general obligation bonds on the ballot every four years replace retiring bonds does allow supporters to honestly claim that passage will not increase taxes. And so, they usually pass.
Of the four GO bonds on the ballot this year, the one that has received the most attention would provide $6 million for affordable housing. Dona Aña Arts Council (DAAC) Executive Director and regular Cafe Con Leche guest host Greg Smith and DAAC Gallery Manager Penny Peace talked with local artist Mary Beagle and author/painter Sonya Fe.
