I was disappointed to learn that filmmakers plan to resume production on “Rust,” and urge state regulators to keep a much closer eye on that set this time.
I can’t imagine why anybody would want to see the film now, other than for morbid curiosity. Everytime there is a scene where an actor pretends to get shot, viewers will know that a real person was shot and killed during filming. The Mesquite Historic Neighborhood of Las Cruces is offering some lively activities to help revitalize the cultural importance and identity of the neighborhood. A new mural was dedicated this week in the heart of the neighborhood, planned as one of a series that will be decorating many of the homes there. And on Saturday October 15th, this coming weekend, the neighborhood will be celebrating the 6th annual Zoot Suit Pachanga and Car Show.
This year the event will be sponsored by the new group, Las Cruces Hispanic Culture. It will take place all day at Klein Park. Patsy Sanchez, one of the event organizers, talks with Nan Rubin about the history of zoot suits, representing Chicano pride in the 1940's, and the activities of the day. Bob, a self-confessed dyed-in-the-wool scientific/engineering thinker, shares a personal journey that took him beyond Darwinian Evolution as a catch-all, default explanation for the highly complex biological systems that constitute and enable life on Earth.
Initially exploring the complex biology of human hearing and other biological functions, Bob started from the assumption that there's more to all this than intermittent genetic quirks. He reflects on his personal exploration within his own being, and within the world's philosophies, religions and considerations of creation, life, death, and after-life. Careful always to clarify that he's describing his own personal experience and that he's not encouraging others to approach or see these considerations in "his" or any other particular way, Bob treats us to a peek at his own fascinating process. |
