In the first half hour of the show, Peter and Walt discuss current issues in the news, this week they tackled COVID vaccinations and the current situation in Afghanistan. This week, the United States joined a long list of nations that have tried and failed to rule Afghanistan.
The Soviet Union came immediately before us. Their adventures in Afghanistan left them vulnerable to the collapse of the Soviet empire that was to follow. The British, Sikhs, Persians, Mongols and Greeks all suffered the same fate, dating back to Alexander the Great and Genghis Kahn. Stuart Kelter interviews Dr. Neil Harvey, an Associate Professor in the Government Department of NMSU, specializing in the politics of Mexico and Latin America, particularly the role of social movements in the struggle for democracy and new forms of political representation. Today’s interview focuses on the political dynamics and history of the drug cartels of Mexico and countries to the south.
Rabbi Daniel Cohen, Senior Rabbi at Congregation Agudath Shalom in Stamford, Connecticut, joined host Xolani Kacela to discuss his book, What Will They Say About You When You Are Gone, published by Health Communications. Rabbi Cohen and xk discussed the seven principles for living a life of legacy. Also, they dug into the meaning of “reverse engineering” one’s life that describes how to live one’s true purpose and realize one’s “divine potential.”
The conversation covered many topics from the book, to include embracing meditative minutes, finding Elijah moments, and bringing light into the world through act of goodness.  Lisa Lucca talks with author, screenwriter, and writing teacher Linda Schreyer in a lovely conversation about her life, her work with writers, and telling the stories that shape us.
Las Cruces Bulletin publisher Richard Coltharp and editor Dave Burge inform listeners about what's going on in Las Cruces and highlight some of the articles in the new issue of the newspaper.
 Poet and co-editor of Sin Fronteras/Writers Without Borders Ellen Roberts Young returned to the show to speak with Lynn Moorer about her second book of poetry, Lost in the Greenwood, which features poems that circle around, describe, and respond to two sets of tapestries from the years about 1500 C.E.—the Hunt of the Unicorn panels in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Lady and the Unicorn series in the Musée du Moyen Age in Paris. Inspired by a gift of a beautiful museum bookmark depicting a lady with loose yellow, tightly woven hair, the poems muse about unicorns, societal expectations of women, earthly pleasures, and courtly culture in the Middle Ages.
Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Ralph Ramos visited with us about how the opening is going, plus what rules are in place and why.
Justice Edward Chavez and Lilly Irvin-Vitela discussed the present effort to redistrict New Mexico in a fair and transparent manner. There will also be a public meeting this week in Las Cruces.
Kristin Otto and Christine Eber talked about the "Maya Weavers Creating Relationships through Textiles” Exhibit at NMSU. Ms. Otto is the new curator of the Kent Hall Art Museum at NMSU, and Ms. Eber is a retired anthropologist whose novel, When a Woman Rises, set in a remote Maya community near Oaxaca, is available for purchase.
