NO SMALL TALK WITH CHANDRA & MEG FREYERMUTH
Monday 6 - 8pm Saturday 2 - 4pm rebroadcast
Chandra and Meg Freyermuth are sisters who were born and raised in Las Cruces, NM. They learned to play piano at a young age, and their parents played various musical instruments. Their home had an extensive collection of music, and a radio that was always on. When Meg was about six weeks old, they attended their first concert at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. They grew up making mix tapes and CD’s with and for each other, each of them always trying to make the perfect mix.
Chandra tried out several majors in college, and eventually decided not to pursue a degree. She and a friend hosted a show at KRUX for part of that time. From the college experience, she learned that she loves birds, botany, Latin, Medieval history and literature. She also loves all the cats very much. She and her husband enjoy traveling, which inevitably involves listening to lots of music, (he is also a musician). Recently, she re-discovered her love for musicals after watching the TV show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”.
Meg majored in Painting & Drawing in college, and graduated in 2009 with her BFA from NMSU. She is currently a full-time, professional artist; as well as a full-time, professional volunteer. She volunteers with a number of community organizations (such as the Bureau of Land Management, Doña Ana Communities United, Murals of Las Cruces, and more), is currently the Chair for the City Art Board, and sits on the Program Advisory Committee for KTAL. She also loves cats, hiking, birding, and botanizing; and she plays drums, guitar, and sometimes piano.
Chandra and Meg decided to do a show at KTAL focused on women’s music after recognizing the extreme lack of representation of women and non-binary musicians in the music world and on the radio. Hosting and producing NO SMALL TALK has greatly expanded their musical knowledge, and their “ear hunger” is constantly seeking out new music. Hosting this show has been a fun and rewarding experience for them, and they love creating the perfect mix of songs every week for KTAL listeners!
