THE DIRTY GARAGE RADIO SHOW WITH JOHN CAJON

John Alsberge was born in Salinas, California, and the family moved to the Mesilla Valley in 1970. After some years moving back and forth between here and Northern California, he settled in Las Cruces for good in 2003. "My roots are firmly planted."
His passion for garage rock goes back to the early 1960s, before he even started kindergarten, a time when the genre had regular airplay on AM radio. His older sisters' record collection pointed him the rest of the way.
John has been playing cajón for 30 years. "I'm a one trick pony, I can't play sticks! Sitting on a wooden box and banging out a rhythm was a natural draw for me."
In 2025, at age 63, he joined a band for the first time. He and Dean Randall formed The Lost Ways, with bassist Jerry Cady recently coming aboard. "We're a blues garage band or a garage blues band — either way it's a great experience." As John puts it, "I finally came out from my cave to make music with others, and it changed my life."
Hosting The Dirty Garage Radio Show on KTAL is, in his words, an extension of that same spirit.
