Our conversation focuses on "Reparations". Most public conversations refer to reparations for the harms and abuses visited upon black people in the US, past and present. Shahid and Tameika talk about a recent experience of receiving a reparation offering that may point to a "Reparations Movement" not contingent upon government or the courts. It's driven instead by everyday folks who recognize the meaning, the value, and our collective obligation to make whole those who've been harmed by slavery and systemic racism. Through the lens of reparations, the conversation leans into US history and the moral, ethical, financial, emotional and psychological elements currently shaping public views of reparation.
