Host MaryAnn Digman interviews John Kutinac, LPCC Experienced counselor and therapist in Las Cruces. John explains how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting his practice and many of his patients. John sees people both via Zoom, Facetime, on the phone as well as in person. Those in person patients wear masks and all are socially distanced.
John reviewes how increased stress is affecting his patients especially parents and educators who are also parents. The multiple competing priorities can be problematic. John also mentions that some people with anxiety or social disorders are comforted by not needing to interact with others, and that patients who have compulsively washed their hands are feeling affirmed. John's overall recommendations are to pay attention to our mental health, as well as our attentiveness to avoid COVID-19, and that exercise, eating well, getting plenty of sleep and using self soothing methods are even more important. |
