Poor kids don’t get candy.
That’s pretty much the gist of Republican arguments defending the loss of food assistance payments. This program with Bob Hearn covers a lot of ground. The conversation touches on choice, freewill, AI, debt, propaganda, marketing, consumer society, social constructs, neurology, separateness/connectedness, thinking, feeling, soul/body, The Dalai Lama's book Beyond Religion and much more.
As always, exploratory thinking with Bob Hearn is thoughtful, insightful, and reveals much to consider. Stuart Kelter interviews Emma Duval, a self-described member of the “millennial generation,” who include the growing number of women who are childless and as, Emma puts it, “childfree” by choice. Although now married, Duval’s early inspirations were independent, unmarried women, and as a teenager she contemplated becoming a nun in rejection of societal norms surrounding marriage. She is the author-illustrator of the recently published book, Unwed & Unbothered: The Defiant Lives of Single Women, which celebrates the courageous lives and remarkable contributions of such women throughout history, going back thousands of years.
In this elegant, swinging episode of Local Vibes Live, hosts Alexandra Brinkley and Casey Chacón welcome the Lush Life Quintet, Las Cruces’ award-winning jazz ensemble led by bassist George Jacobs.
Joining Jacobs in the studio are Miguel Torres on piano, Rex Malgoza on saxophone, Mark Mathias on drums, and vocalist Danika Toscano, whose smooth phrasing and classic tone bring warmth to every standard. The quintet performs timeless favorites including Dream a Little Dream of Me, Autumn Leaves, All of Me, Fever, and Fly Me to the Moon, each reimagined with the band’s signature blend of bossa nova, pop, and contemporary influences. Back by popular demand, NMSU Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champion Roy Gerela returns for another deep and personal conversation with Mike and Brian. In this episode, Roy opens up about his early life in Canada, the influence of his athletic siblings, and how a teacher’s dismissive remark in eighth grade lit the fire that launched his pro career. He talks about the transition to soccer-style kicking, adjusting to American football after moving to the U.S., and the pivotal moment when Coach Warren Woodson discovered his potential at NMSU.
Walt Rubel and Daisy Maldonado spoke with Paul Maxwell and NMSU Clay Club president Zoe about this year’s Picacho Hills Art Show, a juried event featuring more than 20 artists from Las Cruces, El Paso, and Ruidoso. In addition to professional artists, this year’s show includes students from NMSU and Doña Ana Community College, offering a fresh and energetic perspective. The event will be held at the DACC East Mesa Campus (2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd) and features works in painting, sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, and jewelry.
