A message from Paul Dulin, President of the Board at KTAL
General Manager Bruce Ernst and I are reaching out to bring you up to date on what the all-volunteer staff of Las Cruces Community Radio has been doing in these unprecedented and trying times. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've had to cancel our very successful Roadrunner Revue, so we need your support even more.
For the past three years, Radio Que Tal has brought the Mesilla Valley community to you with relevant and creative programming that highlights local culture, music, science and socio-political issues.
Public affairs shows, such as “Speak Up Las Cruces” and “Just Community,” provide compelling commentary by local political and community leaders, as well as insight into issues facing disenfranchised members of our community. Interviews with local artists, writers and activists give a “voice” to our community rarely heard elsewhere in Las Cruces. Shows like “Linea Abierta” and “Latin Alternative” provide Spanish-language programming to the Borderland.
“KTAL programming is relevant.” Radio Que Tal has been there for the community since the pandemic struck. For 13 weeks, Peter Goodman and Walt Rubel provided thrice-weekly Las Cruces Coronavirus Updates focused on the pandemic’s local impact. When the pandemic shut down traditional high school graduations, the Las Cruces Independent School District sought KTAL’s help to broadcast two days of drive-through senior celebrations at the Field of Dreams, lending the station’s on-air talent to a memorable occasion enjoyed by all.
Stay-at-home mandates magnified the important role KTAL plays in providing entertainment through a variety of local, noncommercial music shows featuring everything from jazz and conjunto to folk and classic rock.
Your support is critical to keeping the voice of the Mesilla Valley on the air and growing. One hundred percent of your donation goes to paying rent and utilities, licensing fees, tower rental and other expenses.
